Willkommen auf Station 816, einem besonderen Mikrokosmos voller Kinder, die wahre Helden sind im Kampf gegen lebensbedrohliche Krankheiten, an denen sie leiden. In dieser trotz der schwierigen Umstände äußerst lebhaften Station lernen wir Yuan kennen, der in einem Zoo aufgewachsen ist, Shi-yan, den cleveren Erfinder, der sich in einem selbstgebauten Roboter versteckt, Luo Heng, den abenteuerlustigen Fahrrad-Narren, der das Krankenhaus neugierig erkundet, Nuala, die aus einem besonderen Grund immer Röcke trägt, Jia-nong, das musikbegeisterte melancholische Mädchen, und Da-shan, der den Zauber der ersten Liebe erlebt. Die Kinder von Station 816 halten zusammen und unterstützen sich, bis eines Tages etwas Mysteriöses geschieht. Anstelle der ursprünglichen Nummer der Station steht plötzlich „BIG“ in großen Lettern auf dem Eingangsschild. Was dies zu bedeuten hat und warum die jungen Patienten der Station eine geheime Mission planen, erfahren Sie in „BIG“, einem herzerwärmenden Film, der Sie zum Lachen und zum Weinen bringt und Sie mit dem Gefühl entlässt, der Welt mit neuen Augen zu begegnen.

Der Film wird im Original mit englischen Untertiteln gezeigt. Im Anschluss an das Screening findet ein Gespräch mit dem Regisseur Wei-Te Sheng statt.

A story about six families, whose children are battling cancer, coming together and finding a new home in a hospital ward. Through love and music, they support and heal one another, sharing moments of joy and tears. The newest film by renowned Taiwan Film Maker Wei Te-sheng.

This year’s Taiwan Lecture Series is devoted to questioning Sinophone Authenticities from cross-sectional perspectives. Approaching the topic In Search for Home—Authenticity and Chineseness in Taiwan and the SinophoneWworld, it will consist of four sections, and offer views from art, politics, literature and gender studies. It will begin with a section “Contesting Home—Artistic Renderings” with Taiwan Sound and Visual Artist, FENG Chi-han (Taiwan/Hong Kong), a second section on “Post-Chineseness in Taiwan Politics” with SHIH Chih-yu (National Taiwan University), a third on “Travel Writing and Taiwan Identities” with LIN Shu-hui (National Taiwan Normal University), and a last on “Homing Feminism in the Sinophone World” with Paola ZAMPERINI (Northwestern University).
