Monday | 02:15 PM | Realism and New Hindi Cinema Prof. Dr. Šarūnas Paunksnis (Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania) The talk provides an overview of New Hindi cinema – a cinematic trend that began to emerge in the first decade of the 21st century. Marked by realism, bleakness, and often – violence, New Hindi cinema offered a departure from the dominant mainstream Hindi cinematic trends eventually acting as cinema that bridges the divide between mainstream and non-mainstream cinema. In the past decade, the themes explored by the films as well as their aesthetics have become a significant part of Hindi cinema. The talk will discuss the social and political context that has contributed to the rise of this trend and will focus on some of the key films and filmmakers as well as their cinematic influences.
