Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost (2013)

Qissa is an Indian-German production drama, a Punjabi-language film written and directed by Anup Singh. Made in 2013 and starring Irrfan Khan, Tillotama Shome, Rasika Dugal, and Tisca Chopra, Qissa won international accolades at the Toronto Film Festival in 2013 before being internationally released in 2015. Qissa is a different kind of film that suspends the rational domain, likening this suspended rationality to how the Partition was a period of suspended rationality itself. The film depicts the importance of inheritance and the preference for male offspring among Sikh refugees who came from Pakistan to India after Partition, indicating the reproductive politics of Partition.
