Monday | 04:15 PM | Articulations of the Religious and the Secular in Urban Punjab, in Pakistan and India Dr. Anne Murphy (UBC Vancouver, Canada) In this presentation, Dr Anne Murphy, Associate Professor and Chair of Punjabi Language, Literature, and Sikh Studies at the University of British Columbia, will provide an overview of her book manuscript that explores the political imaginaries produced in the Punjabi language in late colonial India and post-colonial India and Pakistan. The book, entitled "Decolonization and the Imagination of the Political: A History of Ideas in Punjabi," explores key figures in the foundational generation of modern Punjabi writing and intellectual life, located in various urban centers in India and Pakistan, to understand the alternative ways of imagining the political that emerged in response to the divided Punjabi present.
