Montag | 18.15 Uhr | Rescuing Art History from the Nation: Late Chosŏn Korea between Europe and Edo Japan Dr. J.P. Park, Oxford University (UK) Dr. Park’s lecture, titled "Rescuing Art History from the Nation: Late Chosŏn Korea between Europe and Edo Japan,” introduces evidence that testifies to the late Chosŏn public’s active interest in Japanese art. By pointing to the neglected exchange of art and ideas between early modern Korea and Japan, Park’s lecture will expose how age-old academic conventions and nationalism remain firmly fixed in the study of East Asian art history. He will bring a perspective into focus which has largely been omitted during the past couple of decades, when historians of Korean art primarily investigated artistic connections between late Chosŏn Korea and Europe.
