ON THE BEACH von Stanley Kramer ist ein Schwarz-Weiß-Film basierend auf dem gleichnamigen Roman von Nevil Shute von 1957. Der Dritte Weltkrieg hat die nördliche Hemisphäre nuklear kontaminiert und für Menschen unbewohnbar gemacht. Dennoch erhalten Überlebende in Australien ein Morsezeichen aus dem Norden, dem nachzuforschen gilt.

Der wissenschaftliche Kommentar kommt von Stefanie Plappert, Kuratorin der Ausstellung „Katastrophe. Was kommt nach dem Ende?“ im DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum Frankfurt. Sie fragt nach den Vorstellungen von der Postapokalypse und der bildlichen Umsetzung der drohenden Katastrophe im Film mit anschließender Diskussion.

ON THE BEACH by Stanley Kramer is a black-and-white film based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Nevil Shute. World War III has left the Northern Hemisphere nuclear contaminated and uninhabitable for humans. Nevertheless, survivors in Australia receive a Morse code signal from the north that needs to be investigated.

Stefanie Plappert, curator of the exhibition "Catastrophe. What comes after the end?" at the DFF - Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum Frankfurt, will give a scientific commentary. She asks about the ideas of the post-apocalypse and the visual realization of the impending catastrophe in the film, followed by a discussion.
