New technologies, profound political upheaval, and ongoing social transformations have fundamentally affected the ways in which local traditions are studied and documented. Looking back at my own experience of almost forty years of fieldwork, I will highlight some of the evolving potentials of ethnographic documentation by means of digital archives and reflect on the accompanying problems and constraints.
