Montag | 14.00 Uhr | Mammo (1994) Mammo is an Indian Hindi/ Urdu-language film by Shyam Benegal, starring Farida Jalal, Surekha Sikri, Amit Phalke, and Rajit Kapur. The film is based on the theme of family separation and the experience of homelessness, contextualized in the history of the Indian Partition that plays out in Mumbai. The film shows how Muslims separated by Partition not only became homeless in Pakistan but also lost their entitlement to home-making and stability in India in the Partition aftermath. Mammo was deeply acclaimed and considered one of Shyam Benegal’s best works, winning many national awards.
